Hello everyone!
Our first blog post on vCollaboration is on how to get started blogging! You will need an internet connection, an address (which is kept private) and a credit card. First, open a browser window and go to domains.google.com or look for google domains in the search bar.
There are many options to register a domain, but we like Google Domains since they allow private registration and have an easy interface for $12.
Next we need to search for a domain and purchase it. Domains are sold as a subscription measured in years. Notice there’s a lot of options for the domain suffix (the last part of the domain, such as .com or .net). In the screenshot below, we notice vCollaborate.com is not available.
.com is the most common domain suffix, but there’s many options. You can see a full list and a little history for each one here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Internet_top-level_domains
We find a name that we like (the webpage will offer available variations, and some can be owned by someone else that is willing to sell them, which is why they are more than $12) and add it to the cart
Click on the cart and start checkout. You want to leave the Privacy protection, but you can choose if you want it to auto-renew or not.
After this you will have to sign in and use your credit card to pay for the domain. We included the screenshots but blacked out the details.In this screenshot you can tell that the user now shows signed-in, in the top right corner.

Everyone registering a domain must put an address. This address is private thanks to the option we chose before. You can always see information on a domain’s owner using a WHOIS website such as https://lookup.icann.org/en/lookup Once you have filled out your information you will be able to complete the transaction. When the domain is up for renewal time, you will get an email approximately a month before expiration.
After your domain is registered, you can see it listed on your Google Domains account. You will be able to take additional actions that we will cover in following posts. Congratulations, you have registered a domain!
